Thought you might have fun reading this, obviously none of you know anything about it...
Greetings,
You may recognize my name from the recent success my news agency, UUNN. Lately, I've also been contracted to help organize a few pilot events. But I'd like to introduce myself by pointing out that my squad is not named UUNN, or Events-R-US, it's BROKER. I'm an information mercenary, broker of deals, spokesman for hire, knower of some things, friend to the friendly, enemy of none.
A little bird I know at Evenings End has passed along some info that has helped me to connect the dots backwards from TRI-Security looking for you via their special purple channel, back to KTRI adverts of TRI-Sec offering free sensor scrubs to "everyone" for a few days, back to one very specific SeaBear E unit that may contain some interesting data.
TRI's not stopped looking for you, therefore, you have not yet decided to give them the interview they've requested. I can tell you that the "new" TRI-Corp is at once neither the old TRI government, nor is it without its own rebranded tentacles and teeth, and heart and soul. Like any huge organization, it's not a monolith. It's got good people as well as power hungry sons of bitches.
If you'd like to toss me some details, I can help you decide who to trust with the info. My standard brokerage fee is 100k + 1% of the deal. You don't have to tip your hand too much. Maybe start with some basic flight details (where/when) and what you see as the best possible end-game for all parties involved. Then we can gauge how private we need to keep it (news publicity can be its own protection, but can sometimes be a two edged blade). You know, it may be something that needs to be taken wide, say get a few hundred scanners out there working on it (maybe even try to get one of the Factions to sponsor the mission...or Amananth--you never know what'll tickle AM-I's circuits). Or maybe you just need a discreet expert to tell you it's nothing but residual collapse feedback from an anomaly that bounced off the nearest jumpgate pylon at a funky angle whilst the upquarks in your shields were overloaded by conflux plasma. I hate it when that happens.
Anyway, once your EL resources run dry, you'll need to trust someone. My contractually-obligated-trustworthiness is still available on this matter.
Best of luck,
Fence/BROKER/Ally
Hello Fence,
I expected you to contact me eventually. I'm well aware of your credentials and respect your neutrality in matters of discretion.
As you have pointed out, I am indeed currently avoiding all regulated stations as much as is feasible, fearing incarceration or confiscation of materials and information in my possession. While I highly doubt that all the bureaus of TRI are heavy handed, my previous association with them and my strong desire to uncover the unfiltered truth leads me to be highly suspicious of any offers of help or assistance.
I have conducted a preliminary analysis of the sensor data we have acquired in First Sight. What aroused the attention of the Engineer on Evening's End, and subsequently myself, is that there is clear evidence of 'pockets' of deep space that are clearly disjointed from their surroundings. Anomalies perhaps, similar to ones sighted throughout known sectors, but on a much larger, yet subtler scale. To a layman such as yourself, this might mean little, but to cosmologists and astrophysicists, this points to a total clash with prevailing, proven theories.
There are almost as many hypotheses on the results as there are scientists at the EL Research Station in Aman Gate, but one stood out to me as being the most shocking, albeit most matching with my own opinion. To add credibility to myself and my theories, I am attaching this particular report to this message. You will note that this analyst has matched his theories with current records of pre- and post-TRI historical records.
Pre-TRI civilizations developed a form of faster-than-light travel that did not rely on Jumpgates. We will theorize that the continued use of this form of travel forced the Amananthii, purportedly trans-dimensional beings, into our space - possibly due to this form of FTL causing dimensional disruptions, splitting off a small colony. In fact, the entering of Amananth into our space is precisely what caused the first Collapse - a massive dimensional rift, defying all scientific explanation, unleashing energies of unimaginable scale, rippling through all known, colonized systems, swallowing whole planets and transporting them away.
Considering that all known civilizations were totally crippled by the event, it is perfectly reasonable to assume that the Amananthii might not actually have been discovered until over 2000 years later, as they were.
Sixty years after first contact with the Amananthii, Conflux appear in TRI space, an uncommunicative drone-like species that are hostile to everyone without hesitation. The event of the “Aftershock” of the first Collapse is, on a timeline, very close to their first appearance. It can be theorized that the Aftershock was, in fact, a minor, but permanent rift opening in dimensional space, allowing a steady stream of conflux drones to enter our space. It could also be questioned whether this rift was opened on purpose, by the Amananthii - either to request aid in their peril, the Conflux being a genetically engineered race of drones to serve them, or because the Amananthii are actually working to get back home into their own dimension, the Aftermath simply the first failed attempt to do so.
We will not assume that the Amananthii are in control of the Conflux, rather that they may have been able to in their home space, but definitely not here. Technology such as the Whistle or the Antiflux support this theory - limited control or coercion is possible, but without total control, the Conflux only exhibit their natural, drone-like behaviour. Intelligent beings as the Amananthii are, and owing no obligations to TRI, they avoid all contact and arouse no suspicion. By encouraging trade and supplying highly desirable goods, they ensure a constant supply of raw materials and equipment needed to run their station - the supply of highly advanced powerplants, shields and ModX might even intentionally fuel the factions’ readiness and desire for conflict with each other, in order to avoid a united front forming against them. The Amananthii may be working on ways to reassume total control of the Conflux, but there is no evidence whatsoever to support this theory, and there is little point in pursuing this line of inquiry.
The conclusion of this report, even if only partially true, would be that the Amananthii are at least indirectly responsible for countless deaths and decades of relentless warfare, even if it is only due to them attempting to return to their home. Other, more far-reaching consequences of the actual effects of the Collapses and Aftershocks, such as conflicts within the general historical timeline, can also be presented as a theory. If you have studied surviving news items and records, you will probably have noticed certain historical events not matching others. Especially more recent, pre Second Collapse records, seem to make the construction of at least two distinct, individual timelines possible.
You may accuse me of paranoia, but my engagement with economy matters have made me fully aware of TRI's continued existence being totally dependent on Amananthii goods, and that acting on evidence such as this would present a strong conflict of interest. I'm not only implying that TRI would not seek some form of revenge or punitive measures, but that they might attempt to actively prevent the Amananthii from returning to their home space, through subtle means or otherwise, should they find out that they are trying to leave.
I am supplying you with much information here, and I do not expect anything in return except for your discretion and delicate treatment of it. A massive scanning enterprise sponsored by one of the factions would serve to supply us with a much more detailed picture, yet I am not sure which faction would have interest in this matter, with hostility and general levels of mistrust towards Amananth or TRI at a low point due to the ongoing crisis and dependence on their aid following the latest Great Collapse.
I am eagerly awaiting your response.
