It's not bad. I'm used to not seeing many people inflight. Not too difficult to make money (or get a bounty!) and a good few options for upgrading the ships. Multiple ship ownership could do with an option to have one of your ships delivered to another port as the universe is insanely huge. Fighting is good but very different to JG. I've been doing a lot of exploring, then selling the cartographic data I gather. Missions aren't too tricky and good money can be made if you know where to buy items to deliver to the station. My current plan is to move away from my starting system, locate an area with a number of systems with good variety of economy, government, factions, mining, etc. and start upgrading my ship. Mining is very different. You laser the roid for a bit and a chunk of ore is released. You then scoop the ore and into your on board refinery module. Better modules have more than one 'bin' so you can scoop more than one type of ore. When you have a full unit of ore, it is refined and placed into your cargo hold. You pretty much laser the roid to release 2 or 3 pieces, then chase them down, scoop them up and go back for more.
